Welcome back to campus for the 2020 Winter Quarter!
We hope you had an enjoyable winter break and you're ready to jump into this new year and new quarter!

Please see below for a few Week 1 reminders:

1. If you are not enrolled in at least 12 units to be full time, you should still attend any classes you're hoping to add.  For example, if you're waitlisted, or are hoping a seat will open up in a class, you should attend the class.  If you are able to get a seat in the class, you don't want to be behind in the work due to not attending and keeping up with the class.  Classes can be added through R'Web until Friday of Week 2 of this quarter.

2. If you're still looking for a breadth class to be enrolled in at least 12 units, you can consider classes such as  PHIL, ANTH, MUS, DNCE classes, as some sections may have seat availability.

3. If you are eligible to change your major (in good standing, met major change requirements), you should SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE ADVISOR OF THE MAJOR YOU WISH TO DECLARE.  Major change appointments within CNAS are only available during Weeks 2-4 of the quarter. As your undeclared advisor, we cannot change the major for you; you must meet with the advisor of the new major.  Some majors will be hosting major change workshops, and a new blog post will be sent soon with this information.

4. Remember, you can meet with your advisor during drop in availability or by scheduling an appointment.  Availability is posted at myadvising.ucr.edu.  Availability can change with short notice, so we recommend always looking at myadvising.ucr.edu the morning of the day you plan to come in and see your advisor.  PLEASE CHECK STUDENT PROFILE TO SEE WHO YOUR ADVISOR IS!  Your advisor may have changed recently; for example, if you are transitioning toward a CHASS major, your advisor might now be Liz, who is our transition advisor.

5.  Be proactive!  The sooner you identify a challenge or issue, the more options you have to resolve it.  For example, if you are not doing well in a class, you can drop it by Week 2 of this quarter (no "W" or grade will show on your transcript).  If it's after Week 2, you can withdraw from individual classes through Friday of Week 6 (a "W" will show on your transcript, but no grade).  After that day, your only option is to withdraw from the entire quarter (all your classes).  If you have questions or are struggling in some way, please meet with your advisor.  The sooner you contact us, the better, so we can guide you through your options.

Have a wonderful winter quarter!
