A Warm Welcome to our Newest Highlanders!

We want to take a moment to welcome our new incoming Freshman class - class of 2022!  You made it through Highlander Orientation this summer, you registered for 2018 Fall classes, and we're looking forward to your presence on campus in September.

Below, we have listed a few tips and reminders to help you prepare for a fantastic start to your college years at UCR:

1. If you have not taken the English placement exam (AWPE) or Math placement exam (MAE), you MUST take these exams as soon as possible.  You can sign up for one of the remaining exams through the Placement Test website.

2. If you hadn't taken the MAE yet to get your MATH placement, but you're interested in joining a learning community, there may still be a chance for you to join one*.  Once you take the MAE and have your placement information, please email the Learning Community Coordinator to let her know that you now have your MATH placement.  She will look to see if seats remain in the learning community corresponding to your MATH placement.
*Remember, if your placement ends up being ARC 35, you are not eligible to join a learning community.  Your placement must be MATH 6A or higher.

3. If you didn't change your major at orientation this summer, but by the time the 2018 Fall quarter begins you know which CNAS major you wish to declare, please see the MyAdvising website to schedule an appointment.  Major change appointments must be scheduled with the advisor of the major you wish to declare (not your undeclared advisor) during Weeks 2 or 3 of the Fall quarter*.  This will be your last chance to change your major before completing classes at UCR; after this time, you will need to meet all of the published Change of Major criteria, specific to the major you wish to declare.  See the Major Change Criteria for details.  Advisor caseloads are listed at this link as well.
*Appointment availability will only be viewable at myadvising.ucr.edu 2 weeks prior to the availability.  For example, if you wish to schedule an appointment for Monday of Week 3, you will not see that availability until Monday of Week 1.

4. Now that you are an official UCR student, registered for 2018 Fall classes, please keep in mind that FERPA applies.  This means that we protect your privacy as a student, and we are only authorized to communicate with you, the student. If your parent, relative, or friend calls or emails to speak with us about classes, financial questions, deadlines, etc., we are not authorized to speak to them about you or provide any information about you.

5. R'Web will likely remain open through Friday, August 17th, for new Freshman to adjust your fall schedule.  If you're in a learning community, those classes cannot be adjusted; only classes such as English or breadth classes could be adjusted.  Once first pass initial enrollment closes, your next opportunity to adjust your schedule will be Sept. 11th, the start of continuing enrollment for ALL UCR students.  Continuing enrollment will extend through the end of Week 2 of the 2018 Fall quarter, October 12th.

6. Remember to check your UCR email at least once per day.  Not only do CNAS advisors reach out to you through email, but other campus staff and faculty will do so as well.  You don't want to miss out on important information or opportunities because you didn't check your email regularly!

7. Have a great summer, and we can't wait to get to know you!
